Survivor Stories

I Thank The Few That Listened To Me

I thank the few that listened to me, when I stood up and left my abuser.  It was the hardest thing to do, as I was completely scared and alone.  I was surprised and saddened, and definitely shocked that the people in power were not the ones who helped, in fact they turned their backs on me.

I am so happy to be free from the abusive situation, yet, survivors will never be really free, as our abusers are always lurking, stalking and wanting to hurt us more, in some possible way, because their ultimate goal is to totally break us.

I will not break!

Even though some days are tough to get through, either emotionally or financially, I take it one day at a time, like everyone.

I hope Illinois does something to make it better for domestic violence victims and survivors!!!

There is definitely not enough support for us!

If you or someone you know needs help, call the Groundwork 24-Hour Domestic Violence Hotline at (815) 729-1228.
